Jerome Joseph Hutchison 1920-2010

Jerome Joseph Hutchison, 89 and long-time resident of Austin, passed away peacefully in the early morning of June 11, 2010. Jerry, or Hutch (as he was known to his friends), was born on June 27, 1920 in Butte, Montana.

Jerry served the United States as a Chief Petty Officer on a rescue ship during World War II where he saw action in the South and North Atlantic and later in the Pacific. During his service in the navy, Jerry experienced eight crossings of the equator - an accomplishment that gave him great satisfaction and served a rich source for many interesting stories he shared. He also served as a Master Sergeant in the 1st Battalion 141st Infantry, 36th Separate Infantry Brigade in Cuero, Texas.

Jerry retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Comopany in 1983 after a 40-year career that began in San Antonio, TX when he was 18 years old.

Jerry was deeply committed to his faith and was a 42-year member of Saint Lous Catholic Church along with his wife Maeline.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Philomin Hutchison; his brothers Tony and Amos Jr.; and his siter Mary Lou Kravutske.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Madeline; daughters Corinne McCurdy and Janet Hutchison-Ford; sons Jerry Hutchison, Jr., Dr. Phil Hutchison, Clif Hutchison and Dennis Hutchison.
